Adnoidectomy

Diego had surgery yesterday, September 3, 2014.  He had his adenoids taken out and also some nose tissue removed.  Dr. Wine, an Ear Nose Throat doctor did the surgery.
He did great!  He wasn't nervous at all until we got to the operating room, then he looked a little scared.  My mom came at 5:45 in the morning to stay with Eli and Ruby while Cesar and I took Diego to the Children's Hospital.
We checked in and saw a lot of different nurses, doctors, anesthesiologists.

It was about 2 hours after we got there until we went to the operating room.  Cesar and I walked down with Diego to the OR and watched him go to sleep with the medicine.  We both felt a little emotional to see our little Diego go under like that.  The surgery was less than 30 minutes and it all went well.

Waking up from the anesthesia was a little rough.  Diego was just really drowsy and said he was in pain.  The nurse showed him a chart with several faces that went from a really happy face to a very hurt face.  Before surgery she asked him what face showed how he felt and he pointed to the happiest face, and after surgery she asked him again and he pointed to the worst face.  It was sad to see him hurting, but it wasn't for very long.  He was in and out of sleep for a couple of hours and complained about a stomach ache.  I think he was nauseous.

We left the hospital around noon and came home.  Diego sat down to eat some applesauce and then threw up right after!  Poor guy.  I absolutely hate throw up, but that was the only time he did it.  He rested and watched some TV for a few hours and then the rest of the afternoon he was fine.  He ate like normal and played some too.  He was taking Tylenol and Ibuprofen and is still today.
He went to school today and even played at the park this morning!  Very quick recovery.  He occasionally complains about a sore throat which they said he would have.  I'm proud of him and glad everything went well!
There was a really cool Lego model of the hospital that we liked to look at.

Eli is such a sweet brother.  When he woke up in the morning he was crying and told my mom that he was worried about Diego and he didn't want him to get hurt.  He has such a sweet, tender heart.  They were back to fighting by the night though! :)
